A greener organization through Green Human Resource Management : A study based on Rees and Smith’s model “The eternal triangle” (Swedish)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Environmental management (EM) has been developed due to the increasing demand of green positioning in the organizational environment. The EM strategy and Human resource management (HRM) needs to be holistically integrated in order for the EM strategy to be successful. Strategy, structure and culture are identified as significant aspects in the integration of GHRM. Previous research has not described the three aspects together in a context of GHRM. This leads to the purpose of this study which is to describe the integration of GHRM with the model ”The eternal triangle”. This study is based on a qualitative data collection using semi structured interviews and documentary data which are interpreted from a thematic analysis standpoint. 16 documents and answers from four interviewed informants have been analysed. The collected data shows that strategy, structure and culture are important aspects in order to describe the integration of GHRM. There is no strategic integration between EM and HRM in the studied organization Jordbruksverket. Though, an integration between the HRM-strategy and GHRM has been identified. A part of the structure that bears responsibility to develop the green work in the organization is the environmental coordinator, an environmental ambassador and an environmental team. The line managers in the organization also play a crucial part in prioritizing and delegating responsibilities. A greener culture can be created through a learning environment as well as by letting the employees contribute with ideas through communication channels. The empirical data and analysis show that the integration of GHRM can be described with the model “The eternal triangle”, therefore, the purpose of this study is confirmed. The conclusion of this study is that even though the studied organization is not fully using GHRM, the purpose can be confirmed since “The eternal triangle” model can be used to describe the integration of GHRM.
