Abstract [en]
This is a qualitative study based on eight semi-structured interviews with professional social workers that who have their place of work within the social services of children and youth, women's shelters and counselors. The purpose has been to examine how collaboration between different organizations operate when it comes to children who experience domestic violence. Furthermore, the intention has been to identify what works and does not work in these collaborations, and how the children's perspective is taken into consideration within the work and collaboration. The following research questions have been the basis of the study: How do the professionals in different organizations experience the collaboration with authorities and organizations regarding children experiencing domestic violence? How do the professionals experience that the children's perspective is taken into consideration in the collaboration? The empirical material has been analyzed using thematic analysis where three main categories have emerged: Strengths in collaboration, Children’s perspective and Weaknesses in collaboration. The professionals’ statements have been reflected and interpreted using previous research in the field and the structural perspective.
The interviewed social workers in this study have highlighted both strengths and weaknesses in the collaboration between authorities and organizations regarding children who have experienced domestic violence. The strengths within the collaboration is mainly that there is an understanding of each other's profession, and what guidelines and laws the different organizations must relate to. It is also a matter of understanding that the different organizations operate from different perspectives, which makes their working methods different. The social workers identified that the weaknesses within the collaboration are based on the structural level, where domestic violence are not viewed as a social problem. In reality, this means that the authorities and organizations who are meeting children that has experienced domestic violence, are lacking the knowledge, working methods and routines of how to deal with these children. According to the interviewees, the lack of knowledge and clear routines, combined with the fact that abuse and domestic violence are not seen as a problem, leads to the child perspective being lost in the collaboration.
