Abstract [en]

Purpose: The purpose with this thesis is to investigate if the potential e-crown could have an impact on small commerces with a high usage of cash in their revenue. The central bank of Sweden is considering bringing a Swedish e-crown to the market, in order to give the population a complement to cash and a new payment method for smaller transactions.

Research question: How an introduction of a possible e-crown could affect small commerces with a high usage of cash in their revenue.

Research Design: This thesis will include a qualitative, exploratory study, consisting of a combination of primary and secondary data. The primary data is collected through interview with relevant actors to the topic. The secondary data is collected from previous studies about the Swedish payment market, digital payment methods and cashless society

Findings: The finding of this thesis can conclude that the e-crown would have a minimal impact on small commerces with high use of cash in their revenue. The current situation regarding the e-crown is not developed enough to conclude or take in consideration if a possible e-crown will affect the small commerces.

Contribution: This thesis shows that the e-crown will not have any impact on the small commerces. Because most of the small commerces have already adapt to a cashless and more technological society where Swish and credit cards dominate the payment market. If the e-crown would have substituted cash the introduction of the e-crown would have been more of relevance.
