Abstract [en]

Background: Textile and clothing is one of the basic need of the mankind used to coveror protect themselves from the effects of weather, insect bites and thronesetc. for this reason the demand of the textiles and increasing day by dayand the used textiles also increasing. There should have a proper reverselogistics system to collect the end use of textile. This point make usinterested to go for the research for reverse logistics of end of use textile. We tried to find out the existing systems and finally proposed a sub-system for the reverse logistics of end of use textile.

Purpose: To explore the current reverse logistics structure of end-of use textile inorder to evaluate the feasibility for improvements in the system with thecollaborative actions from a consumer, logistics service provider and themunicipality standpoint in Jonkoping, Sweden.

Method: For our research we follow qualitative research with single case studywhich is Jönköping Kommun. Purposive sampling is used. Primary datawas gathered by conducting 16 semi-structured interviews and field visit.Secondary data was collected through articles, using web sources andfrom different project reports from government and other agencies. Byusing systems theory the empirical data was categorized and thenanalyzed by thematic analysis.

Findings: Due to the unawareness of the consumers the input of the systems are verylow. Legislation to collect end of use textiles as the separate entity and theimplementation of reverse logistics systems is on the way. The currentpractice of the Municipality is to collect the end of use textiles as a normalhousehold waste and it is incinerated to produce energy for the residents.LSP are coordinating and cooperating with municipality for collecting theend of use textiles in a proper manner and also the Kommun(municipality) needs strategic changes to fulfill the upcoming rules andregulations.

Conclusion: we have developed a sub-system and it could be used for gathering theend of use textiles in Jönköping municipality. There should have someeducation or provide leaflets to every single apartments and houses so thatthe consumers can be aware about their used textiles to dump.Municipality can take care of the sub-system and explain their roles forthe management of the sub-system effectively. In this context our studyhas provided a rich and up-to-date descriptions for the potentialpossibilities.
