Purpose: Costs of production in the construction industry has increased in recent years, one of the main reasons for this is pointed out as material waste. The Lean Construction philosophy has in the manufacturing industry helped to eliminate nonvalue adding labor. JIT is one of the cornerstones in Lean Construction, and aims to eliminate waste such as waste of time, warehousing and transports in the project. The report aims to identify how the introduction of JIT in construction projects can be simplified, and thereby decrease waste and finally costs in construction projects.
Method: As the report intends to facilitate the introduction of JIT in construction projects must shortcomings of Peab Sweden’s approach in the projects be located in relation to the theory, therefore, a qualitative approach in the form of literature studies, interviews and observations was chosen. These were carried out in collaboration with Peab Sweden in their organization.
Findings: With the methods used a variety of conditions and proposals have been developed to facilitate the introduction of JIT in construction projects. These summarized show that the work with JIT must involve all parties in the projects, purchase, production, logistics, and that everyone involved is dedicated to maintain the labor of the derived measures.
Implications: A total commitment of JIT in the different categories in a project, maintain the labor of the designed measures, dedicated employees who understand the commitment and to maintain constant dialogue with all parties involved is key to facilitating the introduction of JIT.
Limitations: The reports restrictions consist due to that the interviews and observations were performed within Peab Sweden's organization. The work is also limited in that it is designed as a qualitative report, and therefore have no measurable results. And the timeframe for the work was limited.
Keywords: Lean Construction, just in time, JIT, delivery management, construction logistics, warehousing.
