Abstract [en]

The literature within the subject of economic growth and economic performance has developed over the years where the research during the last 20 years has work put more emphasis on values and tolerance as one of the factor to consider when discussing growth theories. The theories suggest that an open and tolerant society attracts talent, creativity and technology and therefore contributes to economic growth even if the are some contradicting results. This paper uses cross-country data and OLS regressions to retrieve a more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between tolerance and economic performance. The results show that there is a strong relationship between tolerance towards homosexuals and economic performance. The relationship is however stronger and more significant for developed countries compared to developing countries.
