Abstract [en]
Introduction The report holds the process and result of a final thesis for a Master in industrial design at Jönköping University. The whole project is valued 30 credits and will proceed during spring of 2018.
Background The task for this project is to develop a concept for a hard case cabin luggage featuring an expandability or compression system. This means that the luggage is supposed to change in size and by that be versatile and fit several travel lengths. The luggage is also going to feature an exterior pocket. The exterior pocket and expandability/compression system should feature solutions that are compact and versatile to benefit the user rather than stealing package volume and adding weight.
Objective The objective for the expandability/compression system is to come up with a solution that is compact and versatile while still preserving rigidity to the luggage.
The objective for the smart pocket is to create a pocket that is integrated with the design of the luggage, possibly not extruding from the main shape.
Methods used Gantt schedule, Product breakdown structure, Function analysis, Matrix evaluation, Observations, Interviews, Image board, Personas, Ideation sketching, CAD modelling and physical models.
Result The resulting concept is presented using descriptive text, 3D renderings, and a physical 1:1 design model.
