AbstractBackground: In literature there is a lot of research on either middle management or training.However, what is missing is a summary of the most important skills that middle managersrequire. Furthermore, there is no literature that combines the topic of middle management andtraining.Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to close this gap. First, the most relevant skills andcapabilities for the middle management are identified. Second, the goal is to find out howthese skills and capabilities can best be conveyed with the help of training.Method: The authors conducted a single case study in cooperation with Porsche Sweden,based on semi-structured interviews with several parties involved.Conclusion: The results show that the most relevant skills for middle managers are leadershipand human resources, strategy making and implementation, management, innovation andchange as well as social skills. A training concept that best conveys these skills consists offour stages, which are the needs assessment, the training design,the training transfer and thetraining evaluation.
