Transmedia Storytelling for Social Change : Case Study on the Transmedia Project COiNVITEMedellin, Colombia (engelsk)
Abstract [en]

This case study research examines a transmedia project that advocates social change while paying special attention to place, to reveal how it contributes to the field of transmedia storytelling for social change and if the aspect of place pays a significant role in the success of such projects. This study is inspired by the rise of transmedia activism. The method used to conduct this research is the analytical and operational model of transmedia design by Gambarato et al. (2020). The findings are that transmedia storytelling for social change with a special relationship to place is an effective communication strategy. Additionally, the aspect of place pays a significantly role in the success of transmedia storytelling projects for change. It could also be analysed that the project COiNVITE contributes to Social Change in the informal neighbourhoods of Medellín by (1) offering the audience a clear goal and tools to take action and (2) communicating a positive, encouraging narrative.
