Abstract [en]

The aim of this thesis was to find out how cross-sector collaborations incorporate sustainable development into their work and especially how sustainability is communicated. The research was conducted in the Swedish county of Jönköping.

The local insurance company, Länsförsäkringar Jönköping, was examined in the context of its active participation in the Climate Council. Thereby, it was investigated which aspects of sustainability become visible in the communication between Länsförsäkringar and the Climate Council. Besides, the communication channels were analyzed. In context of this thesis, communication was neither taken for granted in the collaborative processes nor was it seen as a discourse. It was rather evaluated why communication in collaborations is not only a challenge, but also an opportunity to exchange resources. Reflecting on that, the characteristics of collaborative groups were connected to the communicative processes that evolve between Länsförsäkringar and the Climate Council. To comply with the research aim, policy documents were examined, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with four participants. The results showed that social, environmental and economic aspects are considered when communicating within this specific collaboration. However, social sustainability was mainly important for the insurance company. The evaluation of communication channels showed that face-to-face communication and the communication via e-mail was preferred within the working groups of the Climate Council. The conclusion gives an outlook on future research within this field.
